Salt Seeps

These are low-fired, porous clay forms within a mineral shell. Once filled with salty water, a slow transformation begins. The solution is carried through the tiny spaces in the vessel wall and the minerals crystalize on the outside as the water evaporates. Different properties of the surface, the material, and the immediate environment influence how the salt crystals grow, puckering like fabric or settling like snow. The resulting pseudomorph structures are unique, fragile, and can be broken off and placed back in the vessel to begin the cycle again. Some vessels are broken open by this subtle magic, bits torn off and cemented inside the shell.
