Natalie Andrew is both a visual artist and a professional biologist whose explorations converge around mosses, slime molds, and other denizens of the forest floor. Her art explores themes of otherness, nurture, and impermanence in works using living materials in both long-term, growing installations, and in a unique ceramics technique that permanently captures the brief passage of life that normally goes unnoticed. Her scientific research questions are often stimulated by the things she attempts to achieve artistically and vice versa. Integral to her practice is the crossing of the boundaries that separate art and science, allowing each to inspire the other.
