I am especially captivated by the solace and beauty of the ephemeral, and to explore its transience I use living materials in my work. I source organisms from the forest, particularly the cryptogams – mosses, ferns, and other spore-bearing primitive life. Previous works have sustained the life within them – mossy ponds that continue to grow and change. The current body of work makes a ‘permanent’ record of a short period of cryptogamic growth. It’s a way to say ‘this too shall pass’, and a way to marvel at the pathos of the fleeting moment.
